This afternoon’s performance honors the spirit of American patriotism and the legacy of those who have served our country, showcasing a selection of inspiring and poignant works. The program opens with the iconic “Star-Spangled Banner,” arranged by James Swearingen and featuring vocal soloist Drema Leonard-Alan. We continue with “The March from 1941” by John Williams, a rousing piece that captures the lively energy of the classic war comedy film.

Next, “American Patrol” by F.W. Meacham provides a nostalgic nod to the swing era, followed by Julie Giroux’s “The Greatest Generation,” a tribute to the resilience and sacrifices of those who endured World War II. We are honored to present the premier performance of “In Loving Memory” by Alfred Sergel III, a reflective new work. Drema Leonard-Alan returns to the stage for “Over the Rainbow,” arranged by Warren Barker, bringing new life to this beloved standard. The first half concludes with Michael Kamen’s stirring “Band of Brothers” theme, arranged by Jerry Brubaker.

After intermission, Mark Camphouse’s “Symphonic Prelude (The Cemetery at Colleville-Sur-Mer)” pays homage to the solemn beauty of the American cemetery in Normandy, honoring the fallen of D-Day. Thomas Knox’s “God of Our Fathers,” dedicated to Gold Star Mothers and Families, follows with a powerful statement of remembrance. Harold Walters’ “Duty, Honor, Country,” with narration by Bob Alan, highlights the values of military service.

The concert continues with a lively rendition of the “St. Louis Blues March,” adapted by Perry Burgett, and concludes with “Armed Forces Salute,” arranged by Bob Lowden—a medley honoring the men and women of the United States military, past and present.
