THE MARVELS OF THE NATURE COAST

Saturday, May 3, 2025 – 3:00 PM  Citrus Springs Community Center
Sunday, May 4, 2025 – 3:00 PM     Seven Rivers Church

Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of music that spans continents, cultures, and centuries!

The concert opens with Alfred Reed’s vibrant Viva Musica, setting a festive tone before moving into the heartfelt beauty of Make Our Garden Grow from Leonard Bernstein’s Candide, arranged by Joseph Kreines.

The spirit of American music shines in Dwane Milburn’s American Hymnsong Suite, featuring soulful interpretations of traditional tunes like Balm In Gilead and the lively Scherzo on Nettleton. The whimsical Tutued Toucan Can-Can by Erika Svanoe adds a touch of humor, followed by a celebration of legacy in Castles in Europe by James Reese Europe, arranged by Chandler L. Wilson. The first half closes with the exhilarating March Madness, arranged by TSgt John Bliss.

After Intermission, we return to a land of myths and music with Robert W. Smith’s Ireland: Of Legend & Lore.

We then have the honor and privilege to present the world premiere of The Marvels of the Nature Coast by Chandler L. Wilson, a lush three-movement suite inspired by Florida’s scenic wonders.

Next, experience the fiery rhythms of Danzas Cubanas by Robert Sheldon. The concert concludes with the powerful and emotional Symphonic Dances from Fiddler on the Roof, arranged by Ira Hearshen — a tribute to tradition, resilience, and community.

Conducted by Kathleen Thompson and guest conductor and composer Dr. Chandler L. Wilson, this concert promises to inspire, uplift, and entertain audiences of all ages!
