Kathy Thompson joined NCCB in February 2012 as a member of the clarinet section and took the podium after holding the position of principle clarinetist.  Kathy holds a Bachelor and Master of Arts from the University of South Florida. She has completed over 50 years of teaching and recently retired from the band director position at Seven Rivers Christian School. She taught previously in the public schools of Sumter, Citrus, and Hernando counties.

Kathy has always maintained high standards of excellence for the performing ensembles under her direction. Her bands consistently received Superior ratings at the Florida Bandmasters Association Marching and Concert Assessments. She was teacher of the year in 1998 and 2012 at Powell Middle School and Challenger K-8, respectively. She is also an active clinician in the region, having conducted numerous All-County and All-District Bands in the Central Florida area. In 2006, Kathy was selected to be the clinician for the 7th-8th grade All-State Band. In 2021, she was honored to be interviewed as part of the Florida Bandmasters Association Legacy Mentoring Project.
